(This is written on Feb 24th, since I was too sick to write until then.)
If it looks like I'm dying here, it's because I was. This was a really grueling day. We only went 57 miles, but climbed 3600 feet. There were almost no flat stretches.
This view is much more scenic without me in it.
Here is the famous bridge everyone takes a picture of.
Here is a view looking back at the famous bridge everyone takes a picture of.
We had lunch at Big Sur. The route turns in from the coast and goes up a canyon through redwood groves. This is the scene from our table.
After lunch, there is a 1000 foot climb, then you go back down to the ocean. I don't know why I took this picture.
We spent the night in Lucia. The only thing in Lucia is the Lucia Lodge, which consists of a restaraunt and store...
...and some motel rooms sitting on a cliff. This was pretty spectacular. We are about 350 feet above the water.
Here's the view outside our motel room.
Like I said, this was a really gruelling day. During dinner, I started to feel really bad. I was feverish. I tried to convince myself I had just sunburned my face, but I could barely finish dinner, and I fell asleep as soon as I got back to the room.
Since there is absolutely nothing for miles from here, there was nothing to do but push on the next day.
Here's a map for the day's ride.
